FROM COCKPIT TO WRIST

Flying and motor racing – both sports still have a very special aura about them. In earlier days, when satellite navigation and electronic aids were still far over the horizon, the men behind the wheel sought fame and adventure, and were willing to risk everything to get them – the Wright brothers, Charles Lindbergh, Emile Roger and Karl Kappler to name but a few. Our DAVOSA pilot’s watches recall this pioneering era and remind you of one thing: a watch was no fashion accessory back then, it was the most important instrument on board.

Newton Pilot Automatic

Functional reduction

The DAVOSA Newton Pilot Automatic celebrates functional reduction. The precise Swiss automatic movement DAV 3021ND displays the seconds in addition to the hours and minutes and dispenses with the date display, creating a perfect symmetry that finds a stage on the finely sunburst dial surface. The impression and brilliance of fine sunbeams, as experienced at sunrise in the cockpit, lend a touch of subtle sophistication and elegance to the timepiece. Raised indexes and Arabic numerals mark the hours, while a triangle at twelve o'clock provides orientation. Satin-finished sword hands with an optimal length ratio underline the attention to detail, as does the second hand with a stylised aviator at the tip.

NEWTON PILOT DAY-DATE

FIRST-CLASS PRODUCTION AND DESIGN QUALITY

The Newton Pilot Day-Date Automatic stands for first-class production and design quality, and unites crisp lines with a wealth of meticulously executed details. The additional functions, date and day display, blend discreetly into the background thanks to a tone-on-tone finish that mirrors the dial colour. A striking triangle indicates the 12 o’clock position: In earlier times, pilots only had a split second to determine the position of the hands and read the time reliably. Large Arabic numerals and additional indices set against a black background, combined with diamond-shaped hands, underscore the watch’s exceptional readability. Moreover, all the elements are luminescent thanks to the use of the latest luminous material, Super-LumiNova BG W9, which gives the dial a blue shimmer in the dark. A stylised airplane motif with a red-tipped second hand resonates with the idea of flight.

The design of the automatic chronograph masterfully combines speed and time measurement with the DNA of the classic sport of motor racing. NEOTERIC PILOT COLLECTION

REINTERPRETATION OF THE CLASSIC PILOT’S WATCH

The dial contained within a 42 mm diameter, stainless steel case has a strictly centred design and dispenses with all totalizers. This gives the wristwatch an attractive generosity. The dial carries easily readable Arabic figures to mark the hours. Other features include three hands and an orange, red or yellow minute track on an inner circle. The hour and minute hands are partially skeletonized in opposing ways to differentiate them more fully. The minute hand possesses a colour coordinated frame, so minutes can be read from the inner circle without an additional hand. A fluted crown that is characteristic of DAVOSA is screwed together with the case and remains eminently operable even when wearing pilot’s gloves. A vintage-look, leather strap harks back to the tradition of pilot’s watches. Here too, however, subtly colourful seams testify to a reinterpretation of the pilot’s watch.

AVIATOR QUARTZ

FOR FLIGHT ENTHUSIASTS

A pilot must be able to rely on his wristwatch one hundred percent. The time display is vital: it must be readable at a glance. The watch must be simple and intuitive to operate, even in adverse conditions. The DAVOSA Aviator Quartz masters all these demands with ease.

ISAAC NEWTON

THE INVENTOR OF TIME

It was Isaac Newton (1643-1727) who linked his discoveries to those of other scientists, thus laying the foundation stone for a precise measurement of time. This understanding of time was the principal driver of modern navigation, enabling many scientists, ship’s captains and aviation pioneers to explore the farther reaches of our world. The new Newton series from DAVOSA pays homage to the great discoverers of our time.
